Coospo TR70 Introduction: Should You Get a Radar Tail Light?

von Ruby Choi 13 Nov 2025 0 Kommentare

1. Should You Get a Radar Tail Light?

If you’ve been riding for a while, you probably know that riding on the road is getting riskier every year.

Any road cyclist can relate to that feeling of a car approaching from behind—you hear the wind, but you have no idea how close it really is. Sometimes you just have to trust your gut and decide whether to move over. That split second of tension? Every rider has felt it.

We all love speed and freedom, but safety is always the bottom line. A regular tail light can make others see you, but it won’t let you “see” them coming.

Cars are bigger, electric vehicles are whisper-quiet, and some drivers are distracted by their phones. Even on a bike lane, it’s hard to fully relax. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had eyes in the back of our heads?

That’s exactly where a radar tail light comes in. It’s not just fancy tech—it’s peace of mind. The radar detects vehicles approaching from behind and alerts you through your bike computer or smartphone. You just mount it on your seat post, and a simple beep lets you know what’s coming—no more constant over-the-shoulder glances.

Sounds pretty handy, right? But do you really need one?

Coospo TR70

Let’s take a closer look at Coospo’s TR70 Smart Radar Tail Light—maybe by the end, you’ll have your answer.

2. What the TR70 Can Do?

Honestly, any radar tail light can help you “see” vehicles approaching from behind, but the differences really matter—detection range, brightness, lighting modes, design, and even whether it can connect to your phone all affect your ride. The TR70 shines in all these areas.

1. Millimeter-Wave Radar: Why It’s Different

Coospo TR70 smart tail light uses millimeter-wave radar, this makes it super reliable for cycling safety. Let’s quickly go over three common types of radar:

So why did TR70 go with millimeter-wave radar:

  • Strong anti-interference

  • Good range

  • Compact size

  • Cost-effective

2. How Far and How Bright?

The TR70 can detect vehicles up to 140 meters behind you, with a 220° field of view. Its light goes up to 70 lumens, visible from around 1.5 kilometers away (depending on the mode). In other words, you get plenty of warning before a car gets too close.

You might think the tail light’s lumens are low, but its main job is to make you visible, not to light up the road. In fact, if a tail light is too bright, it can dazzle drivers behind you, which isn’t safe. A lower brightness also helps extend battery life, so the Coospo TR70 takes full advantage of this, offering an impressive runtime.

3. Seven Modes

It has seven modes and even a group ride mode (please check the table above). Switching between them is easy, and honestly, trying out the different patterns can be kinda fun.

4. No Battery Worries

The radar is running constantly, yet it has a large 1500mAh battery that lasts a long 40 hours. Even back-to-back rides over a couple of days? No problem. And it fully charges in just 2 hours—a quick top-up before your ride and you’re good to go.

5. Small but Mighty

Weighing only 64 grams, it’s barely noticeable on your seat post. A simple button on top handles basic controls, and a small blue LED at the bottom shows when the radar is active. Plus, it’s waterproof and dustproof, so rain or dust won’t slow you down.

6. Smart Connectivity for Peace of Mind

· CoospoRide App: Coospo is always working to make the app easier and more fun to use with their products. With it, you can switch modes, toggle the radar, enable power-saving mode, and even see approaching vehicles in real time. Riding without a bike computer? CoospoRide app gives you real-time visual warnings and easy day/night mode switching.

 · Other devices: TR70 uses the standard ANT+ radar protocol, so it works with Garmin, Wahoo, Bryton, iGPSPORT, and more.

3. Ride with the TR70

① Easy Installation

Before your ride, just attach the TR70 to your seat post. The main unit clicks easily into the included bracket, which fits most bikes. Make sure it’s at a good height, facing backwards, and standing vertical without any obstruction in front. Installation takes just a few minutes.

How TR70 Reacts?

Once the TR70 is connected (using the Coospo CS600 as an example), and you start riding on a road, you’ll see a small bar on the right side of your bike computer screen:

· Green when no vehicles are nearby

· Orange when a vehicle enters radar range

· Red when the relative speed between you and the vehicle reaches 72 km/h

Coospo TR70 & Coospo CS600On the screen, radar bars appear on both sides, showing a line of small black dots that represent vehicles behind you and how close they are.

As cars approach and pass, the dots move across the display with a gentle “beep” sound. The  in the top corner shows your current position and the direction of traffic. Of course, it doesn’t replace your own awareness, but it adds an extra safety on ride.

TR70 doesn’t just help you notice vehicles—it also makes drivers and others around you more aware of your presence. It’s a design that looks out for everyone on the road.

③ Why Sometimes the Radar Doesn’t React?

The reason is simple: the radar mainly measures relative speed, meaning the speed difference between you and the approaching vehicle. If your speed is nearly the same as the vehicle behind you, the radar can barely detect it because it blends in with the background. The TR70 registers objects with a relative speed of ≥3 km/h.

In other words, if you’re riding side by side with a car, it might not alert you. But in most cases, as long as the vehicle is a few kilometers per hour faster, the TR70 will give you a timely warning—enough to react safely.

Why TR70?

① Battery Life

The TR70 runs for 40 hours, while most other lights barely make it 20 to 30 hours. That means you don’t have to worry if you forget to charge your gear, decide on a last-minute ride, or end up on a longer ride than planned. And when it does need a recharge, 2 hours is all it takes. And it’s also perfect for a long ride and weekend adventure.

② Dust & Water Resistance

The TR70 has an IP67 rating, so sudden rain, muddy trails, or dusty roads are no problem. Most importantly, you don’t have to worry about your radar tail light failing from water or dirt when you need it most, because a dead light in mid-ride is a real safety risk.

③ A Smart Buy

The TR70 isn’t the cheapest tail light on the market, but it’s one of the smartest buys. Compared to other radar lights, it has longer battery life, solid waterproofing, and full radar features, all for a fair price. Some competitors cost more but don’t last as long or aren’t as tough.

Conclusion

Many riders say that once you start using a radar tail light, it’s hard to go back. If you often ride on busy roads or main streets, you know that sudden tension when a car comes up behind you and you can’t tell how close or fast it is. That’s why a radar tail light is so useful. So if you’re getting one, why not go with the TR70?

A radar tail light won’t fix distracted drivers or dangerous roads. But it does help you see what’s coming from behind and react in time. Safety always comes first. That’s why Coospo designed the TR70.
